Jason Truesdell : Pursuing My Passions

A life in flux. Soon to be immigrant to Japan. Recently migrated this blog from another platform after many years of neglect (about March 6, 2017). Sorry for the styling and functionality potholes; I am working on cleaning things up and making it usable again.

re: Food blogging: why?

Thanks for your comments on food blogging! Your food passion sounds more substantial than mine (you started earlier, hehe...I drew up with the microwave). "The role of food in revolutionary movements and peasant rebellions" sounds really interesting, like something we'd learn about in one of my "food and society" type classes.

I don't think blogs are completely "reactions against glossy idyllic portrayals of food" either, but maybe in a small sense. Nerissa wrote a comment on my entry that blogs are somewhere between the real and idealized food worlds, which I think makes sense.

Mmm...food porn. If I knew more about real porn (uh, it's probably good that I don't), perhaps a comparison could be drawn between professional and amateur porn. But. I'm not going to go on that route. There are some good articles written about that subject, although the titles escape me at the moment. I think they were in Harper's and Gastronomica...

Food blogging is definitely more about sharing the joy of food (or guilt, in my case many times!). It's different from some other kinds of food blogging. Of course, we're all happy: WE LOVE FOOD. IT'S SO AWESOME.

I'd say more, but I hvae to go to class now: "Food and Film". Ahhh. The movie we had to watch for this (final) class was "Soylent Green". Fun? Oh...yeah.
